Re: The F**king Weather!!!
It quit snowing eh? It's still snowing here, thankfully not very heavily.
But my morning commute was excessively exciting... none of the secondary or primary roads had been plowed... I almost lost it a couple of times and didn't get above 25 mph - where I'm normally doing 50-60 mph, and that was in 4-wheel-drive mode.

Yeah, we got about 2 inches was all. Nothing to get excited about around here.

Same here, 3 or 4 inches... no problem unless they don't plow and treat the roads.

Yeah... thankfully they were plowed and treated for my drive home after work... no 4 day wait here.

Around here, the state does a good job with the roads. The county does a horrible job on the county roads and I mean horrible.

I love that last one! A little TLC and that would be an awesome ride!
Our state does a decent job as well. And our county does a good job too. I am fortunate to live in a county that is fairly affluent as counties go in Ohio. By the time I was done at work, there wasn't a trace of snow on even the back-roads that I take home.

Re: The F**king Weather!!!
Oh man, the county here does a shitty job. It might be budget related. I dunno. I usually don't drive county roads very much but I have to drive on one to get to the town I work for the PO in. I can take a state highway there but it always adds 10 minutes to my drive.
The other side of the equation is the recent weather we had a week ago. We had freezing rain and then snow fall on top of that. Then Arctic air fell into place almost immediately. When that happens, it's hard to get the salt and other road chemicals to do their job. When the temps get around 25, the chemicals start doing their job. Sun doesn't hurt either.

I know exactly what you mean... once the temps drop into the single digits road treatments stop working for the most part - if it get's below 0, you're pretty much screwed. Most people who live in warmer climes are not aware of that fact.
Hell, I only found that out once I moved back to Ohio.

Yeah, it's useless in colder temperatures. Sand is the only alternative at that point.
Southern climates have it easy. But I also laugh at northerners who laugh at southerners for not being able to get around in an ice storm. They should put a sock in it because NOBODY can drive on ice. The people up here are as bad as down south when it's icy. Not to mention, the south doesn't get that type of weather except once a year..... if even that. No sense in investing in equipment that's going to sit in a shed for 363 days out of a year.

Exactly. We usually have to use sand here at least a couple of times a year. And you're right, no one can drive on ice, period. You hit ice without chains on most typical roads and the best you can do is hold on because you've got zip control at that point.

Something else I had to laugh at. One time when I was living in Texas, I was headed home to Minnesota for Xmas and this guy down there didn't believe that we could do ice fishing up here. I actually had to bring back photos that I had taken to prove it to him. Then he was in awe.
And then here's doing it the hard way.....

Hell... the pond on the property I live on is almost frozen solid. I could park my truck on it. In fact, I saw a fish inches from the shore that was embedded in the ice. People that have never lived where it gets really cold can't really get it.

Naw, they don't know how thick the ice can get in the winter here.

Alaska isn't as cold as Minnesota. Wasilla is only 21 right now.

Well... tbf it depends on where in Alaska you are. I'm gonna guess it's slightly lower that 21 in the far north of Alaska...

Usually when I check the weather, many spots in Alaska are warmer than here in Minn.... not by much but, hey.
