Re: Favorite Movie
I watched a good British gangster movie the other day called "Rise of the Footsoldier". If you're into modern type of gangster movies, this is a good one. It's about Carlton Leach, a legend in the Essex crime world and, as the cover says, one of the most feared gangsters in England.

Re: Favorite Movie
My absolute favorite is "The Truman Show", in which Jim Carrey starred. Nice little comedic drama of sorts. Gotta love the originality of it, too.
Additional favorites of mine include "Crash," "The Dark Knight" (If only Batman would get rid of that cold!), the "Pirates Of The Carribean" series ("Dead Man's Chest" being my favorite") and, of course, "V For Vendetta".

Re: Favorite Movie
Pulp Fiction. The most unique movie I had ever seen up to that point. Defied all the formulas for movies I had ever watched. A brilliant concept executed perfectly.

CriKey? Just one? I can't! There are 2 types of films I love - those that I think are masterpieces, and those that I acknowledge are hardly cinematic genius - but which I can't stop watching nonetheless.
My favourites great films (you know, the ones you'd put on a list if someone asked you what your favourites are and you don't want to look like a complete goit and so try and aim for classy). Anyway, I'm going to take this to mean those films I just can't stop watching cos they rock.
Hot Fuzz
Aliens
Pulp Fiction
Predator
Labyrinth
Yah. Quite a mix.
IMHO the greatest film ever made is probably 2001.

One of my best friend's son was the location scout for Tarantino (and still is), and he finally convinced me to watch this film... best thing I ever watched. Been a big Tarantino fan ever since.

I LOVE this response, because it is so utterly honest! You have restored my faith in intellectual honesty Bec!
Myself, there are any number of "classics" that I could name as my favorite movies, but there is one genre that I just cannot resist, and it is my very favorite genre despite the saccharine nature of that genre.
Here is my not-so-secret guilty pleasure; and I know that those who think that a heartless, dyed-in-the-wool, card-carrying, knuckle-dragging, free-market capitalist could never appreciate this genre; but my very favorite movies are...
wait for it....
romantic comedies.
I LOVE a good (or even bad) romantic comedy. I know there is something seriously wrong with me, but I just cannot resist a romantic comedy.
One of my very favorites is "When Harry Met Sally" - but it is pretty much safe to say that just about any romantic comedy that one could name would be fine by me.
It's a sickness I think, but I could care less...

Re: Favorite Movie
I have far too many to list (but as I said earlier Pan's Labyrinth wins hands down). Ask me to list my favourite top 10 and I'll give you a list of 20.
Rom-coms I generally find pretty awful. And none of them ever stand up to Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Re: Favorite Movie
I'm not a big fan of Rom Coms myself. I can think of about 3 that I like, which are Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually and Miss Congeniality. And really - the 'rom' aspect of most of those just annoys me, and I focus on the 'com' part
Did anyone care if Andie McDowell and Hugh Grant got it together? I didn't. I thought he should have gone of with Kristin Scott Thomas. Who cares about the tarty slapper McDowell? The better 'love' stories in there were between the lesser characters. But the comedy aspect is what really makes that film. It doesn't really need the romance at all - in fact, I wish they'd dispense with it entirely in the case of Grant and McDowell.
In Love Actually all of the love stories are little snatches so they work better - I actually sort of cared about all of them. Good level of comedy. It's actually Matt who loves this film and makes me watch it every Christmas
As for Miss Congeniality - again - couldn't care less about the lurve aspect, worked better as a comedy. Haven't seen it in years.
Can't think of any more that I like. I'm really not very girly in my choice of movies. As you could probably tell from my list of favourites....apart from Labyrinth! That can count as a bit girly can't it? yeah?

Re: Favorite Movie
I only love Love Actually for Bill Nighy's excellent turn as Billy Mac. It is the best (if not the only) reason to watch it.
Re: Favorite Movie
Fibber, you cry like a girl when Hugh Grant snogs Martine McCutcheon at the kiddies nativity!

Re: Favorite Movie
Wizard of Oz!!! My all time favorite movie and it features my all time favorite song!
Love Dirty Harry (the first one), Easy Rider and the French Connection. I watched 2001: A Space Odyssey when it first cam out, but I didn't understand it at all.
At the top of my list (apart from Wizard of Oz) is Pulp Fiction. I had never, ever seen a movie like it and I was at a complete loss in trying to predict what would happen next. I love a movie that is not formulaic, and that one was definitely not formulaic.

Re: Favorite Movie
2001: A Space Odyssey is a really good movie. I'd seen it when it first came out, and again afew years afterwards, but when I went to see it at a local independent movie theatre in my area about ten years ago, I'd forgotten how freaky 2001: A Space Odyssey really was. I enjoyed it, however. It was clearly a look into the future, but 2001 has come and gone!

Clint Eastwood is one of my all time favorite actors. From his spaghetti westerns to present day, I don't think there's a single performance of his that I didn't enjoy. The man is an artistic genius IMHO.
